Webinar on EU Anti-Corruption Policy and Countering the Shadow Economy

As part of the course “EU Anti-Corruption and Shadow Economy Counteraction Policy”, a webinar entitled “Key Takeaways from the 5th Anti-Money Laundering Directive” was held.

The event was organised within the framework of the Jean Monnet Module “Anti-corruption and countering shadow economy: step by step to common Europe.”

The speaker was Serhii Minenko, PhD in Economics, Lecturer at the Department of Economic Cybernetics, Sumy State University.

The participants had the opportunity to explore in detail the key provisions of the EU’s 5th Anti-Money Laundering Directive, which represents an important stage in the development of the European financial security framework. The 5th EU Anti-Money Laundering Directive is aimed at enhancing the transparency of financial transactions, improving mechanisms for identifying the ultimate beneficial owners of companies, and strengthening oversight of virtual assets and electronic wallets.

Particular attention was paid to strengthening cooperation between financial institutions and supervisory authorities, as well as to harmonising approaches to combating money laundering across EU Member States. The discussion of the Directive’s provisions enabled participants to gain a better understanding of practical instruments for countering illicit and shadow financial flows and of the importance of these measures for ensuring economic stability and maintaining trust in the financial system.

The event was implemented with the support of the Erasmus+ Jean Monnet Modules programme.
